CHENNAI: Kendriya Vidyalaya on the IIT Madras campus has been ranked the No. 2 government school in the country by a private survey released on Friday.
Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya, Dwarka, Delhi, was ranked the best government day school and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Alleppey (Kerala) the top government boarding school. KV-IIT scored 1,070 of 1,500 points in the 12th annual Education World India School Rankings. The survey was conducted in ten categories.
Results of private schools were based on survey conducted with 12,000 parents, principals, teachers and students of 1,000 schools selected by Education World magazine in 27 cities across India. For government schools, teachers, parents and students from the schools as also non-government schools were surveyed.
Schools were assessed on 14 parameters including academic reputation, competence of faculty, life skills, co-curricular education, safety, hygiene, sports and community service.
In the private co-ed category, Adyar-based The School KFI (No. 8) and Shishya (No. 10) featured in the national top 10. These schools managed to score above 1,240 out of 1,500.
By scoring 1,187, DAV Boys’ Senior Secondary School, Gopalapuram came sixth in the boys school category. Only two schools from Tamil Nadu scored above 1,300: Good Shepherd International School, Ooty came No. 2 in the international residential schools category, while Kodaikanal International School came fifth in the same category.
Two other city schools — Sankalap and Alpha to Omega — got top positions in the special needs schools category. Vasant Valley School, Delhi; DPS, RK Puram, Delhi; JB Petit High School for Girls, Mumbai, and Campion School, Fort, Mumbai shared the No.1 slot in the private day school category.
Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT was established in the year 1964, with the patronage and assistance of the IIT Management. Nestling in the greenery of the eco-friendly IIT campus, the Vidyalaya has been nurtured by the parental care of the IIT Authorities and today is marching confidently towards its desired goal of becoming the best KV in Chennai with head held high.
